Malvern & Birmingham Beacons present
STANDING TOGETHER ON COMMON GROUND
Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 March 2024
Venue: The Fold, Bransford, Worcester WR6 5JB
A welcoming community experience built around sharing ideas, music, dance, singing and conversation — as well as exploring what’s happening locally and encouraging ongoing connections and friendships.
The Malvern & Birmingham Beacon is part of Campfire Convention. Beacons represent the face-to-face, local heart of Campfire Convention — intimate gatherings rooted in connection, creativity and shared purpose.
We hope the Malvern & Birmingham Beacon will offer an inspiring, welcoming space and become a model for similar Beacons across the Midlands and beyond.
Campfire Convention was founded and is led by social entrepreneur Pete Lawrence, the conceptualist behind the pioneering Cooking Vinyl record label in the 1980s and the Big Chill festivals of the 1990s. Campfire Convention also runs its own member-led social network on the Mighty Networks platform. We are proud of an ethos that is free from commercialism — no advertising, no tracking, no algorithms. Members can even create their own mini-networks (“Circles”) within the platform.
Campout is Campfire Convention’s annual summer gathering (we don’t like to call it a festival). It provides an intimate, creative and inspirational four-day space where the programme emerges from those who attend. Performers and speakers offer their contributions freely, in the spirit of shared participation.
Regular online Zoom gatherings are another important part of Campfire Convention, helping us stay connected throughout the year.
Day by Day
Saturday
We gather from 3pm with light refreshments and continue into the evening, including disco dancing. Along the way there will be a variety of inspiring and participatory activities. Bring friends, meet new people, and help seed friendships we hope will last well beyond the weekend.
Sunday
For early risers, there will be a gentle yoga-style session, followed by welcome refreshments from 10am as a warm-up for the day’s activities. We will wrap up and disperse around 3pm.
Food & drink
We will share meals together on Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime.
Please note that The Fold is a vegetarian venue.
Tea and coffee will be available throughout both days in our dedicated space. Soft drinks will also be available, and on Saturday evening wine and beer will be offered, with voluntary donations invited to help cover costs.
Cost & tickets
-
£50 per person for both days
(Includes tea and coffee, plus one meal on each day)
We strongly encourage attendance for the full weekend. A limited number of Saturday-only or Sunday-only tickets will be available at a reduced rate of £40, reflecting the reduced catering provision.
Please note:
Tickets are limited and this event is expected to sell out. Early booking is strongly recommended. Tickets will not be available on the door.
We have worked hard to keep prices at a level that simply covers venue hire, catering and essential costs, and we hope you will agree the weekend represents excellent value.
Overnight accommodation
For those not staying locally, there is a convenient hotel just a few minutes’ walk from The Fold:
